Media Quarter

Located in heart of De Waterkant, the Media Quarter is a well-known creative hub within the city. The complete renovation and extension of the existing office building completely transformed the quality of the internal working space and significantly improved the look of the building to the street, helping to establish it as the architectural icon it is today. The works involved demolishing the entire façade, and a large part of the internal space, maintaining key structural elements and transforming a disused central courtyard into an impressive five story atrium that provides an efficient circulation system and floods the building with light throughout the day. Two floors of lightweight construction were added to the top of the building to increase density. The free flowing, contemporary architecture is sustainable, environmentally sensitive and local with all resources coming from within South Africa.
